The Eddie Opening Ceremony 16|17

The opening ceremony for the Quiksilver In Memory Of Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational is one of surfing’s grandest gatherings. The best big wave riders in the world all converge at Waimea Bay. They come with boards, they come with respect, and they take part in native ceremonies there in the sacred sand. Eventually, they paddle out and form a prayer circle in the lineup — silhouettes of superheroes shadow off into sea as the sun melts into the Pacific. It really is something.

Eddie Would Go. And The Eddie Will Go — if we get a big enough swell. The waiting period for the 32nd annual Big Wave Invitational opens up with a ceremony on December 1st and runs until February 28th. Keep one eye on the ocean and two fingers crossed.

Quik groms go nuts at GromSearch


The Quiksilver team was greeted to 3 to 4 foot Jan Juc on the final day of the Ripcurl Gromsearch. With multiple team riders still in the event it was going to be a long day at the beach supporting each other and watching heats.

One of Your Days: Top 10 Finalists

After 550 entries and hours of POV viewing, One of Your Days competition judge Candide Thovex has picked his top 10. Now it’s your turn to see the slopes through the eye’s of the finalists. Strap yourself in and maybe get a bucket ready, this stuff can cause some serious motion sickness.

Once you’ve recovered, prepare yourself for Round 2… the top 10 are already hard at it working on a one minute Candide inspired shred clip. This time around you’ll be the judge. Voting kicks off April 13.

Quik Pro Finals Wrap-up

Three to four foot waves in light offshore winds saw Joel Parkinson and Filipe Toledo kick off the quarterfinals. It was a heat with the old school versus new school in style and Toledo took some early waves with Parko not finding his top two scores until later in the heat that weren’t enough to make it through to the semis with 12.34 to Toledo’s 12.16.

Quik Pro Rounds 4 & 5 wrap-up

Round 4 kicked off three-man heats with Filipe Toledo, Joel Parkinson and Conner Coffin. Toledo kicked off heat 1 with a 9.17 followed by a 9.20 then a 10 - the first of the season. Parko and Coffin were faced with combination situations with only a couple of minutes left on the clock. Toledo goes straight through to the quarterfinals with Parko and Coffin to battle it out in round 5.
